I AM WALL STREET

I AM WALL STREET

I AM WALL STREET

After many years of not stamping messages on currency, in October 2011, I released the “I AM WALL STREET” message in my series of “I AM” stamped messages on currency. The 'Occupy Wall Street' movement that sprung up recently inspired these.

“I AM” is an ongoing series begun in 1998 with “I AM AMERICA.” Harth stamps messages on currency, in various denominations, and then spends/trades the stamped currency to spread the message.

"Threesome" Limited Edition Print Available

Threesome

Threesome

Silkscreen on Paper (Gold metallic ink on 150 Gram Canford China White Paper)
17.78cm x 12.7cm / 7" x 5"
2011
Edition of 36

This project was first posted as a question as my status update on the social networking site Facebook on September 20th, 2011. The question I asked was "Who wants to have a threesome?" I then quickly commented with "This is a limited time offer. I will only do this three dozen times. Send me your address and I'll make it happen within a month!" What followed were various comments by people I was connected with. The first twelve people to respond and send me their address, indicating they wanted a threesome, got this limited edition silk screen print in the mail. For free. Then, via Facebook and my e-mail newsletter, I offered the next dozen for just $3.00 each. Followed by the next dozen for $30.00 each. The first dozen people had no idea what "Threesome" meant and where therefore 'rewarded' for their courage with a unique art work.

I will be participating in BRIC Rotunda Gallery's exhibition "A New Deal, Art and Currency." Please come to the opening reception on Wednesday, January 21, 7 - 9 pm. I will be there!

New Deal, Art and Currency highlights relationships between American presidents and the economy, while observing how these relationships affect art-making. This exhibition takes its name from the social and economic reforms implemented by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1930s. For better or worse, each president affects the course and stability of the economy, and likewise, the changing economy affects the stability and reputation of each president. Artists in this exhibition play within the space of literal and imagined artifacts of currency and alternative methods of exchange to push social protest and reconsider material value.

Artists Include: Fundred Dollar Bill Project, Peter Simensky, Fine Art Adoption Network, David Greg Harth, Mark Wagner, Jesús Jiménez, Jon Kessler, Jonathan Herder, Anais Daly, and Anissa Mack.

A catalog featuring essays and reproductions of artworks was produced to coincide with this exhibition.

aiw:a - Artists' International Workshop: Aley 2008 - Exhibit

Postcard invitation

aiw:a - Artists' International Workshop: Aley 2008 - Exhibit
When: August 31, 2008; 3-7pm
Where: Aley, Lebanon; Hey il Gharby, opposite Mar Jirjis Greek Orthodox Church

aiw:a - Artists' International Workshop: Aley 2008 - Exhibit, Lebanon, opening August 31, 2008

After a two week art residency in Aley, Lebanon - a city just outside of Beirut, I will be participating in aiw:a - Artists' International Workshop: Aley 2008 - Exhibit. Please come to the reception on August 31, 2008 3-7pm

For the duration of two weeks, over 20 artists from across the world, Lebanon, and the region will be joining forces in Aley to exchange ideas and practices in their field.

Starting August 17, the residency organized by Artists International Workshop: Aley (AIW:A), coordinated by Ghassan Maasri and Lina Hakim, aims to bring together artists from different backgrounds, countries and disciplines to one another, as well as introduce them to alternative means of production and practice.

Through the Municipality of Aley, AIWA invited the 5 international artists to work with 7 artists from Lebanon and 5 from the region.

The AIW:A residency program follows the Triangle Arts Trust Workshops Model, which was initiated in 1982 by Robert Loder and Anthony Caro, and is now established in over 18 countries, including Lebanon.

Building on the success of the 2005’s experience in Lebanon, AIW:A will offer artists an opportunity to exchange ideas and know-how in an environment geographically and conceptually different from their own.

After the two-week period, an open day will take place in Aley on the 31st of August in which critics, artists, curators and the public will be invited. This feature is designed to encourage community involvement and introduce audiences to a wide variety of international artistic practice and the process of making art in a creative space, protected by privacy unattainable in the city.

A catalog featuring essays and reproductions of artworks will be produced to coincide with this exhibition.

Harth in "Urban Guerrilla Protest"

Image of the book

Harth featured in the book Urban Guerrilla Protest

“Urban Guerrilla Protest”
By Ake Rudol
Page Count: 134, Size: 8 x 10 inches
Format: Casebound
Publication Date: July 2008, $ 27.95
ISBN: 978-0-9790486-9-2
Published by Mark Batty Publisher

My work, I AM NOT TERRORIZED is featured in the new publication Urban Guerrilla Protest by Ake Rudolf, published by Mark Batty Publisher.

Urban Guerrilla Protest showcases the ways and means of individual, subversive protest actions. Featuring over 90 artists and initiatives from around the world, the book provides insights into the resources that are being used to place activist messages in the heart of the everyday, documenting the rise of the media-guerrilla during the decade spanning 1995-2005. All over the world, activists have disseminated their messages using an array of methods targeted to grab the attention of the public, as well as the perpetrators of the actions that have instigated the protestors.

Berlin-based graphic designer Ake Rudolf has compiled an international collection of successful and poignant actions; its design and bilingual English/German layout is an homage to the Do It Yourself attitude that all of the examples champion in the name of questioning corporate hegemony. Examinations of Reverend Billy, the Yes Men, The Institute for Applied Autonomy, The Billboard Liberation Front, The Ruckus Society, Yomango, Surveillance Camera Players and more than 90 other examples from all over the US, UK, Australia, China, Argentina and elsewhere illuminate how these messages are heard, and in many cases incite change.

In the words of Rudolf: “Subversive communication practices mediate disobedience and visual subordination. They create new meaning, providing the public with new perspectives for how they view the world, which all too often differs from how huge corporations want the public to view the world.”

Available for purchase on Amazon.

Famous in the art world as the most exciting and affordable way to build a collection of work by internationally renowned artists as well as young and emerging artists, all works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers have a list of participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased. A collector might end up with a work by a famous artist or someone they don't know yet. Either way, they walk away with a great piece of art while supporting the important work of Visual AIDS.

This exhibition invited 10 artists to produce original works of art, which will be forward to 10 philanthropists at the conclusion of the exhibition. Philanthropy in the arts is an interesting and important topic for critique, and it is our intention that this exhibition will create a platform for thought and dialogue on the matter. The selected recipients of the works of art include: Peter Norton, Agnes Gund, Eli Broad, Ronald Lauder, Leonard Lauder, Donald Marron, Francis Greenburger, Richard Rockefeller, March Avery Cavanaugh and Michael Bloomberg. Artists will be randomly matched to one of these individuals on the evening of the exhibition's opening.

A catalog featuring essays and reproductions of artworks was produced to coincide with this exhibition.
