Every Person I Know And Every Person I Don't Know - ArtBridge - Installation

I'm doing another installation with ArtBridge.
This time my new project, “Every Person I Know And Every Person I Don't Know” will become a large 300 foot linear installation consisting of about 325 photo booth portraits! Each photo booth strip will be 4ft tall! For those of you who said “Yes” to become part of this installation, come see yourself! The art work will be up for one year.
ArtBridge, and I are having an opening celebration at Under Water Lounge @ Water Street Restaurant on Friday, September 28th. Everyone is invited! Come celebrate and check out the installation across the street.

Every Person I Know And Every Person I Don’t Know

A new time-based participatory art work until forever.
When I was younger, I would frequent the local Photo Booths to take self-portraits. Throughout high school and my studies at university I would seek out these rare photo booths. Sometimes just for a self-portrait sometimes a portrait with a friend and one time, I took a portrait with a complete stranger.
Over the years photo booths have become more scarce. Sure there are many digital photo booths but not many old school photo booths that use real chemicals and the film development process.
In the late 2000’s Facebook was introduced and everyone has a digital camera in their smart phones. I witnessed people uploading their digital photos to social networking sites and they had the ability to delete the photos right away or alter them to make them look old.
This got me thinking. I missed the old school photo booth portrait. The commitment to the object. If one is unhappy with the strip of 4-photos they must destroy an actual object. It's not just the deletion of pixels. I miss the captured moment in time. I miss the intimate time spent with someone in the close quarters of the booth. I miss the moment of conversation and the unique experience.
In early 2012 I decided to start taking photo booth portraits with all my friends, for my archive, for art, for Facebook. That led to everyone I'm connected with on Facebook. I admit, I am 'friends' with people on Facebook that I've never met in person. It's an art thing. It's a New York City thing.
That was a starting point. As I began to reach out to people I normally would not have met, I realized I wanted to take this project further. I want to take a photo booth portrait with everyone. With every person I know and every person I don't know.
A lot of my art works are time based. And this one is no exception. At first I thought this would be a life-long project. Then I realized I didn't even want to put that limit on it. So, this project will go on forever. How? Well, there are other people named “David Harth.” And after I die, another person named “David Harth” can continue this project. As long as a “David Harth” poses in the photo booth portrait the project can continue forever.
This photo booth portrait project finally got a name “Every Person I know and Every Person I Don’t Know” and I realized another component to the project, The Editions. If you pose with me, you have the option to get an exclusive art work edition.

The end result of this project is this website. Granted, there is no ending. I’ll be also posting photos on Facebook. At this time I have no further plans for this project other than its virtual presence and the actual photos that reside in my archive and the editions.

Mystery Edition #1: Thinkway #111112200011
Announcing the first Mystery Edition in an edition of 30.
This was the first mystery edition released in early 2012. Before the edition was revealed, one could purchase the work at a lower pre-release price. After the work is revealed, the price was higher. This first Mystery Edition was an edition of 30 relief prints made from a brass plate. It was new Thinkway drawing and was a transatlantic print in collaboration with Warren Editions in Cape Town, South Africa. This drawing is also unique in that I have applied new rules and regulations to how I draw the lines. While one may see a relationship between this drawing and other drawings in my Thinkways series, this drawing is the FIRST to have a distinct set of rules applied to it. The Mystery Edition #1 was first available in December 2011 and was revealed in May 2012. The pre-release price was lower if purchased before April 1st, 2012. The edition price increased after an image of the art work was made public.

Visual AIDS Postcards From the Edge Benefit 2012
I will be participating in this year's Visual AIDS Postcards From the Edge Benefit. The sales of the art works at this exhibit benefit the work of Visual AIDS. The last time I participated in this benefit was several years ago. I urge you to go to this year's benefit. Not only for the good cause, but the postcard I made is definitely different than any other postcard that will be there. I assure you. It's beyond a postcard.

Postcards From the Edge is a show and sale of original, postcard-sized works on paper by established and emerging artists. Famous in the art world as the most exciting and affordable way to build a collection of work by internationally renowned artists as well as young and emerging artists, all works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers have a list of participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased. A collector might end up with a work by a famous artist or someone they don't know yet. Either way, they walk away with a great piece of art while supporting the important work of Visual AIDS.
