Information:

I’ve been donating platelets on a regular basis for over 20 years. After my “I ate a burger with Harth.” project received great reception and participation with people, I've decided to do something very dear to my heart.

On September 25, 2013, I started a new art work/project entitled “donated platelets with Harth.” If you donate platelets (or whole blood, plasma, or any other blood product) at the same time I do, I will give you this Limited Edition Printed Card. It is signed by me. Dated with the date we donated platelets together. A location is noted.

This does not have to happen at the same donation center. It does have to happen on the same day. It can happen in various cities or countries. I can meet more than once person at a time while donating. (For example, I can meet with a group of friends all at once and we all donate together.) Just reach out to me and we'll make plans to donate together. See my donation schedule below. This edition and experience is limited to 175. Please contact me if you have any questions.

If you do not donate in my presence: I will need proof that you donated. At Blood Centers in the USA, you are given a receipt form that indicated you donated. A scan or picture of this form will do. A lot of this is based upon trust.

If you can not donate for medical reasons you can still obtain a signed limited edition card if you donate $25US to your local blood center. If you donate $ to a blood center, an email receipt of that will do. A lot of this is based upon trust.

Some information from the NY Blood Center about platelet donations:

Platelet Donation
- A platelet donation uses automated technology to collect a concentrated volume of platelets, which are necessary for clotting and may be needed by cancer patients, accident victims, and other patients with blood clotting problems.
- Total time to donate: up to 2 hours, 30 minutes (from registration through refreshments)
- Can be donated: up to 24 times each year.

The Backstory:

On September 11th, 2001, while living in New York City, I tried to donate blood that day. It was impossible. So I put my name and number on a list. I was finally called in by the NY Blood Center to come and donate in November 2001. When I arrived to donate, the receptionist asked me “What are you here to donate? Blood? Platelets? Plasma?” and I asked, “What do you need more of?” That is when I learned about the need for platelets and that is when I became a regular platelet donator.
