Grand Jury Duty Thinkways
Information:
I’ve been making my Thinkways series for over almost three decades. I’ve just found it almost therapeutic to make these drawings; a combination of chaos and calmness. These complex overlapping road-like lines are created without planning and without erasing. These drawings are often made in graphite or ink on paper, or when I make the Thinkways large-scale on walls, they become Wall Drawings. Sometimes I’ve made copper etchings or other prints and foil prints. In rare instances I’ve made an animated film. Make sure you check out my banana. The name “Thinkways” purely comes from the fact that while I create these drawings, I'm thinking. I just let my mind wonder and wander.
Grand Jury Duty Series
I served twenty days from May 27, 2024 – June 21, 2024 on a Grand Jury at Kings County NY State Supreme Court at 320 Jay Street in Brooklyn, NY. I heard over 45 cases including: Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault, Domestic Violence, Hate Crimes, Weapons Possession, Drugs, Robbery, Kidnapping, Sexual Assault, Rape, etc. The court gives each juror a notebook to take notes. Each day I made a different Thinkways drawing on the back of each notebook. I signed and dated the drawing on the front cover of each notebook. I also included an evidence sticker on each notebook; which I dated and numbered. Number 1 being the first drawing on May 27, Number 20 being the last drawing on June 21. May 27; Memorial Day and June 19; Juneteenth, the courts were closed. Therefore, the backs of those notebooks do not have inked Thinkways. The fronts are signed just like the others. However, they are available and considered Thinkways. They are just intentionally left blank since I was not in court. This is that series.
